Unsustainable Beer Drinking
Yesterday, I commented on an Ethical Corporation article about the “Cost-Benefit Analysis of Beer” — which sounded like a worthy topic of discussion, as many of us remember from our MBA Case Study days. Turns out it was just disappointing PR hot air from Miller Brewing.

Other Ethical Corporation readers, to their credit, seem to have thought the same thing.

Funny — I just had a flashback to Dr. Fry’s Ops class this week while taking a mandatory “Lean Six Sigma White Belt” course (intro to the Theory of Constraints, Lean, & Six Sigma methodologies). Made me think of the day he brought in the legos for us to play with — manufacturing bottlenecks, etc…
I actually think of those classes a lot, Heather. They are more relevant than we ever imagined, probably…! Wonder how Dr. Fry is doing… About the above, it reminds me of a pretty special MIBS anecdote: I remember a(nother) “Beer” case study materializing at the end of a busy semester in International Marketing Research, and the team doing their presentation as a game show! Randall Cook was an uproarious MC (I’m in touch with him all the time on FB still, btw) and he rewarded every question answered correctly by an audience member with a fresh, cold bottle of beer! (I remember Mary Broscious being one of the lovelies who carried a small cooler to deliver the “prizes” up those amphitheater aisles of the MIBS classrooms — if you remember what I’m talking about?) I recall hesitating, then looking around to see everyone furtively opening up their “prizes.” So, of course, I too reached the bottle opener. By 8:30am (!!), almost everyone in that 35-student classroom had had an ice cold one, and a good chuckle or two, thanks to good old RDC. So, as you can see, my personal inclination would be to give beer the cost-benefit of the “doubt,” but alas…..
